Intensified uranium mining in the US threatens an indigenous tribe

Late last year, industrial giant Energy Fuels announced the start of development at several mines, including Piñon Plain, Arizona, near the edge of the Grand Canyon. It is located near the border of the Grand Canyon Ancestral Footprints National Conservation Area (Baaj Nwaawjo Ita Kukweni).

The Havasupai tribe and community organisations tried to prevent work on the mine, but the court recognised the company’s right to operate it.
