A 2014 study found that many marine organisms depend on shells, including hermit crabs, which often choose them as their home. Shells also serve as a source of calcium carbonate, essential for many coastal fauna.
On one of the beaches in Spain, scientists made calculations and found that the seemingly incalculable number of shells is seriously reduced because of tourists.

Yawning is an involuntary respiratory act that scientists believe is characteristic of most vertebrates. Its occurrence can have both physiological causes, such as thermoregulation or sleepiness, and social causes, which are less well understood.
‘To investigate the social causes of yawning, it is interesting to observe it in animals with a certain cognitive complexity that live in cohesive groups, such as primates or marine mammals. This behavioural response in different species may be due to very similar factors,’ stressed study author Professor Clara Lamazares from the University of Valencia.

The Philippines has accused Chinese fishermen of mass extermination of bivalves belonging to the species Tridacna Gigas, known as giant triangles. At issue is a contested shallow water area controlled by the Chinese Coast Guard in the South China Sea. Philippine authorities have filed an international request to assess environmental damage in the area.
